Marion City Council will meet Monday, April 23, and is expected to vote on two income tax proposals. One would create mandatory filing for City residents while the other would reduce by 50 percent a tax credit that affects those who live in the City, but work in some other communities.
The full City Council meeting will be preceded by a meeting of the Jobs and Economic Development Committee at 7:00pm. They will discuss re-declaring the City’s support for Fair Housing and will learn about the projects proposed for this year’s Community Development Block Grant.
The entire City Council will meet starting at 7:30pm. Items on the agenda include:
- An ordinance changing Council Street to a one-way street going west;
- An ordinance to create a universal filing requirement for City of Marion Income Taxes. Currently, a filing is only required if a person actually owes income tax. Officials hope the change will result in a higher tax collection;
- An ordinance that would reduce the 100 percent City of Marion Income Tax credit that is given to those who live within the City, but work in other municipalities that have a higher income tax rate. The ordinance would reduce the credit to 50 percent. You can learn more about the reduction plan by clicking here;
- Approval of appointments to the Airport Commission;
- Approval of a contract with Helms & Sons Excavating INC. for the May Street Sewer Improvement Project.
City Council meets on the second floor of City Hall and all meetings are open to the public.
