Red Cross Holding Babysitter’s Training Class

The American Red Cross – Marion County Chapter – will present its Babysitter’s Training class, Saturday, April 7, 2012, at The Alber Red Cross Center, 1849 Summerset Drive. The training runs from 9:00am to 4:00pm.

The class gives youths who are interested in babysitting an organized way to get started. Intended for students 11 to 15 years old, it provides instruction in supervising infants as well as school-age children. Participants learn to identify common safety hazards and prevent injuries. Basic first aid is covered, along with situations that call for prompt professional medical attention. Students learn to safely perform important tasks, including lifting, holding, feeding, diapering and dressing infants. The course also offers practical advice on making good decisions, preparing simple meals and resolving bedtime issues.

Because babysitting represents the first paying job for many young people, subjects such as preparing a resume, finding work, interviewing, and conducting oneself in a business-like way are covered as well.

Cost for the session is $85.00 and includes a copy of the Babysitter’s Training Handbook, a companion CD-ROM and the Emergency Reference Guide. Class size is limited and pre-payment is required. Parents may register a student and pay fees by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767.)

Each participant is asked to bring a sack lunch.
