The Marion Family YMCA will kick off the new West Side Community Center activities, targeted towards individuals living in the west side of Marion, with an open house at the Rushmore Academy school building, 1665 Amherst Drive, on Wednesday, April 4 from 3:30pm to 4:45pm and from 7:15pm to 8:00pm.
At the open house the Y will introduce the community to initial activities they are offering and also ask those who stop by to complete a brief survey. The survey will help the Y determine types of programs and services to offer through the Community Center.
The Open House is free to everyone in Marion and residents are encouraged to stop in and learn more about the Y’s Community Center activities as well as share with Y staff your ideas for meeting the needs of the west side neighborhoods. The Open House will include refreshments.
Community Center activities are funded primarily through a grant from the Marion Community Foundation.
YMCA Community Center activities will begin the week of April 9. Activities will be held at several locations in or near the west side of Marion. The initial schedule is as follows (activities are free unless otherwise noted):
Tuesdays and Thursdays Open Gym 3:00 – 6:30 pm at the City Recreation Center 204 W. Church Street for ages 10 to 21;
Wednesdays Marion Public Library Family Time 4:00 – 4:45 pm at Rushmore Academy 1665 Amherst Drive for families with children.
Wednesdays Home Work Help 4:00 – 4:45 pm at Rushmore Academy 1665 Amherst Drive for ages 5 to 14;
Wednesdays Beginner Adult Exercise Class 7:20 – 8:00 pm at Rushmore Academy for adults. Fee is $1 each week.
