The Elgin Local School District is getting ready for the 2012-2013 school year. The first day of classes for all buildings is Monday, August 20. The following information should help students and parent get ready.
Elgin High School
Schedules
Schedules for all incoming sophomores, juniors, and seniors will be mailed the week of Aug. 6. Parents and students are encouraged to address any questions about their schedule before the first day of school. Freshman orientation
Freshman orientation will be held at the high school auditorium on Tuesday, Aug. 14 at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. All incoming freshmen and their parents are strongly encouraged to attend one of these sessions. Students and parents will learn what is expected at the high school and will be able to tour the building. Students will also receive their schedule for the upcoming school year. Class lists
Elgin South and West will post class lists on the front doors of the school on Wednesday, Aug. 15. Please do not call the school for this information.
Open House
Elgin South and West will be holding an Open House on Thursday, Aug. 16 from 4 p.m.–6 p.m.
First day of school
The first day of school is Aug. 20, 2012. The school day is from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
While Elgin 1st-12th grade students begin on Aug. 20, kindergarten has a staggered start the first three days. Kindergarten students begin in small groups with one-third beginning on Aug. 20, one-third on Aug. 21 and the final third on Aug. 22. All students will be in school on and after Aug. 23. Kindergarten teachers will contact parents about this start. If kindergarten parents have not heard a week before school starts, please call the school.
