Police Arrest Two for Allegedly Breaking into Cars

The Marion Police Department says two men were arrested for allegedly breaking into and stealing items from a number of vehicles. The arrests came after an alert resident told an officer that she was talking to people they saw breaking into the vehicles.

Earlier today (Wednesday, September 12, 2012), police officer Electa Foster said he observed two men acting suspiciously in the 300 block of Windsor Street. As she was speaking to the pair, a resident approached and stated he had witnessed the men breaking into cars.

Investigators say that through the subsequent investigation, thefts on Windsor, Duluth and Cherry Streets were solved and a significant amount of property was recovered.

Police arrested Shawn Lumberson, age 21, of 324 Girard, and Adam Ramirez, age 18, of 342 South Prospect Street. Both were initially charged with a felony of Receiving Stolen Property.

The Marion Police Department recommends that valuables not be left in vehicles, especially overnight. They say that theft offenses are on the rise in the community and the best way to prevent theft is to limit the opportunity by securing valuables.

The Marion Police Department urges the citizens of Marion County to continue to provide information related to crimes to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Marion Police Department through the TIPS LINE at 740-375-TIPS.
