The 4th annual Bark For Life of Marion takes place on Sunday, October 14, at Pleasant Township Park. Organizers are inviting the public to join the Honored Pet Survivor, Prince “Mickey” Jolley. You can come greet Mickey as he walks with his human survivors this year.
Mickey was diagnosed with a Mast Cell tumor and had to have his back left leg removed. He learned to balance himself on three legs and mastered the stairs in three months, as well as jumping on the couch.
The American Cancer Society Bark For Life is a noncompetitive walk event for dogs and their owners to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer. Organizers say that by supporting Bark For Life, you help the American Cancer Society save lives, and that helps us move closer to the ultimate goal of a world with less cancer and more birthdays.
NBC-4’s Bob Nunnally will emcee this event that will feature an opening ceremony that includes a blessing of the dogs, and a first lap that will honor human and dog cancer survivors.
The Marion County Humane Society is participating by bringing dogs who need adopted. If you want to come out and walk but need a dog, these dogs will be ready and willing.
Other activities will include photos of dogs and owners, dancing dogs performing, numerous raffles, and food. One of the highlights of the day will be a Costume Contest so dress up your dog in his/her Halloween costume. A special prize will be for the best costumes for dog and owner.
Registration is $25 for the first dog and $15 for the second dog. Registration at the event begins at 12:30 pm. The walk starts at 1:00 pm.
You can sign up early or get more information by going to their Facebook page at Bark for Life Marion. You can make a donation to this event at www.relayforlife.org/marionOH.
