The Salvation Army in Marion recently started accepting applications for Christmas Assistance, but the initial response has been slower than expected. Those interested can apply in person on weekdays through Friday, November 9.
“The Christmas Application process has been underway for a couple of weeks now, but so far the response has been very slow and we have had a very low volume of applicants,” Major Paul Knickerbocker stated.
Applications will be taken Monday – Friday from 9:30 am to 12 noon and 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
Applicants will need to bring along:
- Proof of current address.
- ID for everyone in the household.
- Copies of All Household Income and Expense information.
- Proof of Custody of all minor children.
Food assistance will be provided to all qualifying households. Gifts and clothing items will be provided for all children under 15 years of age.
Following the dates listed above, the Salvation Army will take applications only for those clients with a referral from a local agency or organization.
“As usual, we would like to encourage everyone to make application early so that we have adequate time to try to meet their family’s needs,” explained Major Knickerbocker. “All qualifying households will receive age appropriate gifts, however, the later the application, the less likely it is that we would be able to fit their children’s specific likes and interests.”
The Salvation Army has been helping to meet the needs of Marion area residents since 1887 and continues to strive to provide the comprehensive assistance to all those who turn to them for aid. In 2011 over 450 area households received Christmas Assistance, with thousands more being served through their ongoing social service programs throughout the year.
