Marion Church Offering Election Outreach Efforts Emphasizing Unity

Emanuel Lutheran Church will hold a communion service, open to the public, on Election Day, Tuesday, November 6, at 7:30pm in their sanctuary. The first of its kind at Emanuel, the church hopes the service will foster a sense of unity at a time when the American public is extremely divided.

Daniel Bradshaw, Director of the Parish Communications Board, says this service is just one example of Emanuel’s recent efforts to reach out to the community and the world.

This summer, Emanuel began broadcasting both their traditional and contemporary worship services across the world on their own YouTube channel. September brought their debut on local TV39 (Marion Time Warner cable channel 20) where they now show weekly on Sunday at 6:30pm.

“We’ve been broadcasting on WMRN-AM for decades. Richard Tubbs from our Evangelism Board presented the idea of expanding our broadcast to TV and YouTube, and Council thought it would be another channel for us to get the message out,” said Bradshaw, explaining it felt like a natural progression. “Already we’ve seen it being embraced by people not just here locally, but internationally with the views we get on YouTube.”

Other recent outreaches include a Gentle Worship Service. Started by former Associate In Ministry Molly King, Emanuel offers this half-hour worship designed for those with special needs on the fourth Sunday of each month at 1:30pm.

Preparations have already begun for their 15th annual Thanks and Giving Dinner, held in the church parlor Thanksgiving Day. Over 1,000 free Thanksgiving meals are served or delivered by the congregation and community volunteers during this event. Details such as specific times will be announced soon for the 2012 dinner.
