The members of the Marion Police Department have chosen Officer Mark Elliott as Officer of the Year and Dispatcher Matt Cole as the Civilian Member of the Year. They were chosen by their peers for this honor.
Elliott currently works 2nd Shift for the Department and has established a reputation over his 10 year career as a hard working officer. He consistently leads his shift in calls for service answered.
Elliott has also worked as a member of the Investigations Bureau and he was assigned to the MARMET Drug Task Force. He also volunteers with the Marion PD K9 Unit as a decoy, meaning the K9 practices apprehensions on him.
“If we had a Department full of Mark Elliott’s, our whole Department would be better off,” said Chief of Police Tom Bell. “The Marion Police Department is so grateful to have Officers the caliber of Mark Elliott working here and we are proud to have him working for us.”
Matt Cole also currently works 2nd Shift for the Department and has established a reputation over his 11 year career as a hard working Dispatcher. Cole’s peers say he is considered to be the go to guy by his supervisors when special projects need done.
“Matt is always trying to be one step ahead of our officers so that he can provide them the best information that may lead to solving a case or keeping them safe. We are really glad to have Matt as a member of the Marion Police Department.” said Chief of Police Tom Bell. “Being selected by your peers lets you know that you are really doing a good job. Matt has won this award multiple times and it is obvious his peers think the world of him.”
Officers Casey Thomas, Jamie Ralston and Detective Dave Troutman along with Dispatchers Kristen Lehmen and Dan Werling were also nominated for the award and Bell said they should be congratulated for all of their accomplishments in 2012.
