A new chess club has formed in Marion and organizers are inviting everyone interested in playing or learning to join them on Saturdays. There is no cost to play and all ages and skill levels, from beginners to experts, are welcome.
Larry Edington says the group began getting together as a “club” about a month ago. Currently there are about 15 people who attend with about 9 showing up on any given Saturday.
The Marion Chess Club meets every Saturday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm or until the last game is finished. They play at Tim Horton’s, 1325 Mt Vernon Avenue in Marion.
Edington says you don’t have to stay the whole time and that some people arrive early and some later. Generally there are 4-6 people playing at any one time.
The club is made up of people from all backgrounds. Edington says they have a pastor, a judge, a couple engineers, a few salesmen, a nurse, a couple kids, and a few retirees who attend.
