March 3-9, 2013 marks the 12th Annual National Problem Gambling Awareness Week, dedicated to increasing public awareness of the availability and benefits of problem gambling treatment. The Ohio Lottery says they are dedicated to helping those with gambling addictions and has joined this effort to help educate the public about problem gambling warning signs and promote the Problem Gambling Helpline (1-800-589-9966), where individuals can call confidentially for help 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
On March 6, the Ohio Lottery in conjunction with the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services will host the annual Problem Gambling Conference in Columbus for counselors across state of Ohio. The conference offers seminars and training from experts in the areas of prevention and treatment of all aspects of problem gambling.
“As Ohio’s gambling landscape continues to evolve, it is critical that we focus on prevention, training and treatment of problem gambling,” Ohio Lottery Director Dennis Berg said. “This event is a key component of that effort.”
The Ohio Lottery provides funds to the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services (ODADAS) for prevention and treatment of problem gambling, with trainings and treatment centers across Ohio. In addition, the lottery funds Ohio’s annual Problem Gambling Conference held in conjunction with National Problem Gambling Awareness Week.
