The Marion County Historical Society on Thursday, May 23, 2013 will be hosting a free program on Civil War music at 7:00pm in the Heritage Hall auditorium. This “engaging musical treat” will be provided by Steve Ball, a musician and historian from Columbus Ohio.
The audience will listen to the songs that were popular during this epic struggle in American history, and hear the story behind each song, as Ball makes the ballads come alive. The repertory includes rousing patriotic pieces, silly marches, songs of long-lost love and tragic melodies.
Organizers say this one-hour program should delight audiences of all ages, even if they aren’t Civil War buffs.
This program is made possible by funding through the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Constitution Center, and the American Library Association. There is no charge for the program. Doors open at 6:30pm.
