Marion Community Foundation has begun its search for a new president/CEO in earnest. Brad Bebout, who has served the organization since 2000, recently announced his intent to retire in December 2013.
The Foundation’s Succession Committee, an ad hoc committee of the organization’s Board of Trustees, has developed a profile and skill set of the individual they are seeking and has begun to advertise the position.
“Publication of the job posting is the next step in a well-planned and deliberate process to find the best person to assume leadership of Marion Community Foundation,” says Succession Committee Co-chair Larry Geissler.
The Succession Committee is composed of Geissler, Rex Parrott (co-chair), Susie Brown, Thomas Jenkins, Dr. Charles Garvin and Bebout. The Succession Committee has developed a plan for the transition of the CEO/president, will conduct the search for the new CEO/president, review candidate resumes, and present finalists to the full Board of Trustees. The committee will also monitor and facilitate an efficient transition for the staff.
“We hope to make a selection by November or December,” said Geissler. “We plan to have a new president in place on January 1.”
According to Geissler, the position will be advertised locally first, including Marion, Delaware, Columbus and central Ohio. Broader advertising will follow with trade organizations such as Philanthropy Ohio and the national Council on Foundations.
The committee has developed the following description for candidates: The position requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field with a graduate degree a plus, proven excellence in public relations, organizational management, verbal and written skills. Understanding of the non-profit sector and experience in volunteer management are desirable as is knowledge of social services, planned giving, investments and the Marion County area.
“This is a community foundation and we value what the community thinks might be needed in a leader,” said Bebout. “Any committee or board member may be contacted to make suggestions.”
