Effective July 1, 2013, the current fee for late renewal of motor vehicle registration will be reduced from $20 to $10. In addition, the previous 7-day grace period associated with the fee has been extended to 30 days.
The BMV asks drivers to keep in mind that it is still illegal to operate a motor vehicle after the registration expiration date as doing so can result in citations and fines.
In order to avoid a late fee, the BMV reminds vehicle owners to complete renewals up to 90 days before the expiration date, either in person, at your local deputy registrar, by mail or on-line at www.OPLATES.com.
Vehicle registrations typically expire on the motorist’s birthday, as some mistakenly believe expiration is at the end of the month.
