Marion Palace Theatre’s Upcoming Season Includes Musicals, Concerts, and Plays

Marion Palace TheatreThe Marion Palace Theatre’s 2013-2014 season has been announced. National touring acts, including the Church Basement Ladies, Paul Revere and the Raiders, and Manhattan Transfer, will join six locally produced concerts and musicals. Tickets for all shows go on sale to the public Monday, July 29 at 9:00 a.m.

Ice Cream Sunday: The Second Scoop –Sunday, August 25 at 3pm – This praise and worship concert and sing-a-long feature vocalists and musicians from Marion, Ohio and neighboring counties. Audience members are invited to an ice cream social in the May Pavilion immediately following the concert/sing-a-long. Tickets $15 plus $1 for ice cream social

Harvey, A Palace Production in the May Pavilion – Friday, September 20 & Saturday, September 21 at 8pm, Sunday, September 22 at 2pm – A harmless, alcoholic middle-aged man drives his sister crazy by insisting that his friendship with an invisible white rabbit is real, in Mary Chase’s Pulitzer Prize comedy play, Harvey. A Palace Production directed by Greg Patterson. Tickets $20

Woody: His Life, Times & Teachings — Sunday, October 6 at 3pm— Jeff Hall stars in a one-man show celebrating the legendary Ohio State football coach, Woody Hayes.  The play is set in the mid-1970s at a Hayes lecture – complete with desk, chalkboard and lectern. Naturally, the show is laced with Buckeye football history, but the core message is about becoming a success in life, taking personal responsibility, understanding the importance of education, hard work and paying it forward…something everyone should learn, regardless of age, gender or team allegiance. Sponsored by Central Ohio Farmers Co-op. Tickets $15

Disney’s Little Mermaid, Jr., A Palace Production – Friday, October 11 & Saturday, October 12 at 7:30pm, Sunday, October 13 at 2pm – In a magical kingdom fathoms below, the beautiful young mermaid longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. Adapted from Disney’s 2008 Broadway production, Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID JR. features the hit songs “Part of Your World,” “She’s in Love,” and the Oscar-winning “Under the Sea.” Directed by Kristi Wink.  Sponsored by Jim and Barb Greetham. Sandy Hackett’s Rat Pack Show — Sunday, October 27 at 3pm— Sandy Hackett’s Rat Pack show looks like Vegas and feels like Broadway.  The new 50th Anniversary Rat Pack Tour has been hailed as the next best thing to the Rat Pack themselves – style with substance, swing with swagger, and a non-stop party that everyone wanted to access.  Experience the most authentic Rat Pack show in the world with exciting brand new arrangements of classic songs everyone knows and loves.  The show features Sandy Hackett (Buddy Hackett’s son), Lisa Dawn Miller (daughter of Ron Miller), and a remarkable cast and musical team. Tickets $22, $26, $30

Christmas at the Palace 2013, A Palace Production – Friday, December 6 & Saturday, December 7 at 7:30pm, Sunday, December 8 at 2pm – This annual production will include more than 300 community members in choirs, dance numbers, instrumental ensembles and light-hearted, yet touching, scenes of the season. CHRISTMAS AT THE PALACE is a favorite holiday tradition for many families. Directed by Clare Cooke. Tickets: $22/$17 adults, $12 children age 12 and younger.

Decades: The Concert with Ryan J Ratliff – Saturday, February 8 at 8pm— Four Broadway guys take you through the best of four decades of incredible music:  all made famous by Boy Bands of the Decades. Rock out with The Crew Cuts and Bill Haley’s Comets of the 50s, The Four Seasons, Beach Boys and Beatles in the 60s. Keep it cool with the 70s bands Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jackson 5, Queen and the BeeGees.  Then, after giving tribute to the 80s with Journey, Bon Jovi and New Kids on the Block, the concert will come full swing by saluting the mecca of boy bands in the 90s.  Tickets $20, $25, $30

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, A Palace Production – Friday, February 21 & Saturday, February 22 at 7:30pm, Sunday, February 23 at 2pm – The Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to vibrant life in this delightful musical parable. Set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock ‘n’ roll, this Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless. Directed by Greg Patterson. Tickets: $22/$17 adults, $12 children age 12 and younger

Church Basement Ladies: A Might Fortress is our Basement – Saturday, March 22 at 7pm— Church Basement Ladies presents a brand new musical comedy featuring four distinct characters as they organize the church basement kitchen and solve the problems of a rural Minnesota church in 1964.  From the elderly matriarch of the kitchen to the young bride-to-be learning the proper order of things, we see them handle a record breaking Christmas dinner, the funeral of a dear friend, a Hawaiian Easter Fund Raiser, and a steaming hot July wedding.  They stave off potential disasters, share and debate recipes, instruct the young, and keep the Pastor on due course while thoroughly enjoying (and tolerating) each other. Two on Tap – Thursday, March 27 at 2pm— If you love Fred and Ginger or Micky and Judy, then you will love “Two on Tap.”  Broadway veterans Melissa Giattino and Ron DeStefano star in a tribute to the lost art form of great Hollywood and Broadway song-and-dance pairings.  Classic songs by Gershwin, Mercer, Berlin and other Tin Pan Alley songwriters bring audiences back in time, taking a fresh look at the exciting lost art form of duo song-and-dance. Tickets $15

BINGO! The Musical, A Palace Production in the May Pavilion – Friday, April 4 & Saturday, April 5 at 8pm, Sunday, April 6 at 2pm – Bingo is a splashy, zippy, fun new musical comedy about a group of die-hard bingo players who will stop at nothing to play their weekly game. In between the number calling, strange rituals and fierce competitions, love blossoms and long lost friends reunite. The laughter and fun continues all through the night as audience members join in and play along.  Directed by Clare Cooke. Tickets $20

Paul Revere and the Raiders – Saturday, April 12 at 8pm— The magic chemistry of Paul Revere’s personality and a sixth sense for pleasing an audience has been a major factor in the Raiders’ rise to popularity; and not by sheer accident.  Revere has created, over a period of time, a highly polished act built on warmth and spontaneity.  The finest talent and personalities keep this group a top entertaining act year after year.  The band consists of founding member Paul Revere, guitarist Doug Heath, bassist Ron Foos, keyboardist Danny Krause, vocalist Darren Dowler and drummer Tommy Scheckel. It’s sure to be a good time when these guys take the Palace stage. Tickets $25, $30, $35, $40

The Manhattan Transfer: The Living Room Sessions – Saturday, May 3 at 8pm—The Manhattan Transfer has earned its place as a major staple within the music community continuing to create compelling vocal music that draws audiences of all ages and walks of life.  With worldwide sales in the millions, Grammy Awards by the dozen, and as veterans of sold-out world tours, we now welcome The Manhattan Transfer to the Marion Palace Theatre in an intimate concert setting that will feature the singers and a pianist performing many of their hit songs such as “Birdland,” “Operator,” “Tuxedo Junction,” “Chanson d’Amour,” “The Boy from New York City” and more.

People can still become a friend of the Palace by contributing to the Palace Cultural Arts Association membership drive, which includes member benefits featuring early access to tickets for the entire season.  Ticket sales to Palace members begin Monday, July 22 and are stratified by donation level.  Ticket sales to the general public begin the following Monday, July 29 at 9:00am.

Tickets for all of these shows may be purchased at the Palace box office, 276 W. Center St. in downtown Marion or by phone at 740/383-2101.  Box office hours are 9:00am-5:00pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, closed Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
