Marion County Fair Kicks Off

Photo from the 2012 Marion County FairThe Marion County Fair gets underway Monday, July 1, 2013 and runs through Saturday, July 6. While normally hot this time of the year, this week’s weather looks to provide cool temperatures, but chances of rain and storms nearly every day.

Monday, July 1, is Canned Food Day, Ladies Day, and Senior Citizen’s Day, all sponsored by Marion General Hospital Foundation and Kingston Residence of Marion.

Canned Food Day means that from 8:00am to 2:00pm admission is free for those 11 years old and older who donate a canned food item. Rides sold separately and no return hand stamps are offered for free admissions.

Senior Citizen’s Day activities start with free coffee and donuts and includes entertainment, games, door prizes and more.

One highlight this year is a free breakfast for veterans. The Veteran’s Day Breakfast will take place on Thursday, July 4, in a tent on the midway from 8:00am to 10:00am. There will be a program recognizing Veterans and those who are serving now. The breakfast is free to the veteran and one guest.  The day is sponsored by VFW Post 162 and the Marion County Fair Board. For reservations to the breakfast, call 740-382-2558.

Daily Gate Admission to the fair is $6 with children 10 and under admitted free. Admission does not include rides. A week long pass is $20 per person and can be purchased at the Fair Board Office in the Coliseum. Passes will not be sold after Monday, July 1.
