The Ohio State Highway Patrol is warning drivers to not get behind the wheel impaired this Fourth of July weekend. Troopers will be out in full force removing impaired drivers from Ohio’s roadways as part of the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement crackdown.
Fourth of July weekend is traditionally a dangerous holiday period on Ohio roads, particularly for impaired driving. Last Fourth of July holiday, troopers arrested 263 drivers for OVI from Tuesday, July 3 at Midnight through Wednesday, July 4 at 11:59 p.m. During this time impaired-driving was responsible for 87 crashes statewide.
“Driving impaired or riding with someone who is impaired is not worth the risk. The consequences are serious and real,” said Colonel John Born, superintendent of the Patrol. “Not only do you risk killing yourself or someone else, but the trauma and financial costs of a crash or an arrest for driving while impaired can be really significant.”
Don’t lose your freedom this Fourth of July by getting arrested. Make smart decisions. Plan ahead and designate a sober driver to ensure a safe ride home.
Troopers encourage the public to continue using #677 to report impaired drivers and drug activity.
