Marion Unemployment Rate Down a Tick in July

The unemployment rate for Marion County dropped one tick in July, 2013 to 7.9 percent, down from 8.0 percent in June. That keeps the rate slightly below the level it was a year ago when it stood at 8.1 percent in July 2012.

However, the rate decrease was not due to an increase in local hiring. Instead, it was directly related to a decrease in the available workforce which dropped by 300 people.

Counties surrounding Marion mostly saw decreases, other than Crawford and Union Counties which saw a slight increase in their rate. Hardin and Wyandot Counties saw big decreases of 0.7 percent each.
