From Marion County Treasurer, to State Treasurer, to United States Treasurer – Mary Ellen Withrow offers some insight on the lessons learned along the way to kick off the new season’s monthly luncheon program for the Marion Women’s Business Council, Inc.
Withrow began her career in public service in 1969 as the first woman elected to the Elgin Local School Board in Marion County. She continued on to be the first person to have held the post of treasurer at all three levels of government – local, state and national. As Treasurer of the United States, Withrow was responsible for the operations of both the U.S Mint and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. She is also the National Honorary Director of the U.S. Savings Bond program where she represented the Treasury Secretary nationwide in promoting the sale of the savings bonds.
Withrow’s signature has appeared on more U.S. paper currency than any other person’s.
The first luncheon meeting will be Monday, September 9, 2013 at the TRECA Building, 100 Executive Drive, Marion. The program is slated to start with networking at 11:30 a.m. Interested potential new WBC members may check out the day’s luncheon for half price – $6 instead of $13 with an RSVP.
If interested in attending the luncheon, you should make reservations by calling Jeri Hartshorn 740-387-6312 or Jean Obenour 740-387-3788. The luncheon price will be $13 with the deadline for reservations Wednesday, September 4.
