Turning Point is urging the public to Wear Purple on October 23, 2013, in support of victims of domestic violence. Purple is the color associated with domestic violence and by wearing purple, you are letting people know that you support the victims of domestic violence and will speak out against this crime.
“Domestic violence thrives in silence. As a society, we are told that what goes on at someone else’s home is none of our business. This allows the abuser to maintain control in the home and the victim to be further victimized. By wearing purple, we are standing in support of victims and speaking out together that we will not allow this to happen in our community,” explains Paula Roller, Executive Director of Turning Point.
Turning Point asks you to take a photo of yourself, your group, or your company wearing purple and email it to them to display on their Facebook page. You can email photos to [email protected].
Turning Point asks the public to peruse their part of the national Clothesline Project. The t-shirts displayed are done by survivors who use the shirts to communicate their messages regarding domestic violence. They will be on display for the month of October.
Turning Point offers a 24-hour hotline for victims of domestic violence. If someone you know needs help or if you would like more information, please call (800) 232-6505 or (740) 382-8988 or check out our website at www.turningpoint6.org.
