Voters Mostly Say No to New Levy Dollars

VoteOnce again, Marion voters have said no to new funding for local schools and agencies according to the unofficial results of the 2013 General Election announced by the Marion County Board of Elections. Those tax issues that were simply renewals were all approved, while those asking for additional funding were soundly defeated. The only exceptions were Salt Rock Township Fire and First Consolidated Fire who saw new tax dollars approved.

In county-wide issued, voters approved Marion County Children Services’ renewal levy, but defeated Tri-Rivers’ replacement levy by 837 votes and MARCA’s replacement and increase by 1750 votes.

Pleasant Schools’ additional levy request and Ridgedale Schools’ income tax/bond issue were also defeated soundly with 56% and 59% against respectively.

Other tax issues that passed included:

  • Caledonia Village renewal
  • Grand Prairie Township renewal
  • Green Camp Township renewal
  • Prospect Township renewal
  • Salt Rock Township renewal
  • Battle Run Fire
  • First Consolidated Fire replacement
  • Scioto Valley Fire renewal

Marion City Council will have at least one new face as Scott Crider will join incumbents Becky Gustin and Josh Daniels as at large members.

Ayers Ratliff won re-election to Marion City Council’s 2nd Ward with a write-in campaign against David Osmun. Ratliff earned 74 votes to Osmun’s 35.

Gary Iams will return to the Marion City School District Board of Education. He’ll be joined by former coach and principal Mike McCreary who took 47.24% of the vote out of the three candidates.

Incumbants Lynn Clabaugh and Karen McCleary were re-elected as Marion Township Trustees.
