On Thursday, December 5, 2013, a Marion County jury returned a guilty verdict on one count of Trafficking in Heroin and one count of Possession of Heroin, both second degree felonies, following a three-day trial, according to Marion County Prosecutor Brent Yager.
Yager said that on March 26, 2013 officers from the MARMET Drug Task Force made a traffic stop on North Greenwood Street. During a search of the vehicle, 499 bindles of heroin were located in a suitcase in the truck.
Curtis Gartrell, of Hoboken, NJ, was sentenced Thursday to a mandatory six year prison term and the $1,724 that was seized at the time of his arrest was forfeited to the MARMET Drug Task Force.
Yager said he is pleased with the outcome and credits MARMET officers, once again, for “a job well done in the mission to keep drugs off the streets of Marion County.
MARMET is a partnership of the Marion Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
