Tom OysterTom Oyster was recently named the 2013 Marion County Republican of the Year. As a member of the Marion Republican Party, Oyster serves as chairman of the candidates committee, as well as chairman of the 2nd Amendment and Sportsmen’s coalitions. He is also the county co-chairman of Governor Kasich’s re-election efforts.

Oyster ran for County Treasurer in 2012.

He resides in Marion with his wife, Michelle, and their 4 children. He is an avid outdoorsman who loves spending time hunting, fishing, and teaching his children the skills he has developed over a lifetime in the woods.

Oyster served in the Army for 8 years and is a graduate of the US Army Special Operations School and the Ranger Induction Program. He served as a Psychological Operations Specialist assigned to 5th and 10th Special Forces Groups. Sgt. Oyster served tours in Iraq in 2003 and 2004.

A business owner, Oyster recently sold his landscape company to focus on his passion, Sergeant’s Tactical. He provides firearms training from beginner classes to advanced military and law enforcement training. He also teaches individuals and groups survival skills, self-defense and disaster preparedness.

Oyster said he wanted to thank his wife, Michelle for her support and strength. Without her, he said he would not be able to pursue his passions, and to donate as much time and effort to the Marion Republican Party.

Oyster will be honored on March 26, 2014, at the 40th Annual Marion GOP Harding Day Dinner at the All Occasions Banquet Facility.  This year’s keynote speaker will be Lt. Governor Mary Taylor.
