Local Farm the Focus of Upcoming Retired Teachers Meeting

Marion City-County Retired Teachers Association (MCCRTA) will meet on Monday, April 7, 2014 at 12:00 noon at Country Gatherings, 1775 Marion-Waldo Road. The meeting will include a program by Carousel Watergarden, a local farm.

The lunch meeting is $12 and will include honey-glazed ham, sweet potato casserole, green beans, dinner rolls, and carrot cake. The reservation deadline is Sunday, March 30 and can be made by calling Eva Blankenship at 740-494-2534.

President Elect/Program Chairman Joe Catera invited Mark and Cathy Krist to give a presentation on their organic farm operation, Carousel Watergarden Farm, 1970 Marion Marysville Road (Route 4) in Marion. Their farm, which is GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) Certified by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, features fresh produce, free range brown eggs, chicken, and turkey. They also offer vegetable, egg and meat CSA’s (an internationally recognized testing and certification label). Their farm products include Cathy’s Tasty Treats herb dips, rubs and seasonings, dried herbs, jams and jellies, honey, maple syrup, infused honey, soup mixes, gourmet dog and cat treats, and other products.

In an effort to add to MCCRTA/ORTA’s 266 members, a membership recruitment committee met recently to prepare a mailing to 400 non-member retired teachers in Marion County.  Each non-member was sent informational materials from the Ohio Retired Teachers Association along with a membership form and self-addressed envelope mailed to treasurer, Pat Lynch, 1065 Barks Rd. E., Marion (740-389-5350).  Checks should be made out to “MCCRTA”.  Membership dues ($40) may also be paid at the meeting.

Members are asked to bring an item(s) for the Food Pantry: canned goods and/or non-perishables like instant potatoes, pork & beans, peanut butter, noodles, etc. and also items like bar, dish, and laundrysoap, toothpaste and brushes – and also some empty 1 dozen-sized egg cartons.
