State Approves Tax Credits for Two Marion-area Business Expansions

Governor John R. Kasich recently announced the approval of assistance for 14 projects set to create 1,095 jobs and retain 4,823 jobs statewide. Two of those projects are in Marion County which would create 46 new full-time jobs.

During its monthly meeting, the Ohio Tax Credit Authority (TCA) reviewed economic development proposals brought to the board by JobsOhio and its regional partners. Collectively, the projects are expected to result in $48.9 million in new payroll, and spur more than $148.4 million in investment across Ohio.

Projects approved by the TCA in Marion County include:

Graphic Packaging International, Inc. expects to create 30 full-time positions, generating $708,864 in additional annual payroll and retaining $10.4 million in existing payroll as a result of the company’s expansion project in the City of Marion (Marion Co.). Graphic Packaging produces folding cartons, coated recycled boxboard and specialty bag packaging. The TCA approved a 40 percent, six-year Job Creation Tax Credit for this project.

ReConserve of Ohio, Inc. expects to create 16 full-time positions, generating $670,000 in additional annual payroll and retaining $1.2 million in existing payroll as a result of the company’s new location project in Claridon Twp. (Marion Co.). ReConserve recycles bakery, cereal grain, snack foods and related food by-products. The TCA approved a 45 percent, six-year Job Creation Tax Credit for this project.

Another project approved was for International Paper Company in Kenton which expects to create 125 full-time positions, generating $4.2 million in additional annual payroll and retaining $18.4 million in existing payroll as a result of the company’s expansion project in the City of Kenton (Hardin Co.). International Paper manufactures paper and packaging materials. The TCA approved a 60 percent, eight-year Job Creation Tax Credit for this project.
