In what has become a familiar trend, tax levies did not fair well in the latest election. According to unofficial results of the May 6, 2014 Primary Election released by the Marion County Board of Elections every single local tax issue was defeated except for the renewal levy for Tri-Rivers Career Center.
Most of the issues were voted down soundly, but the Tri-Rivers renewal levy passed only with the support from voters of surrounding counties. If it had been up to only Marion voters, the issue would have failed by 59 votes.
Proving the old saying that every vote counts, the additional levy for Pleasant Township Fire Department was defeated by just nine votes.
State Issue 1, which called for Ohio to issue bonds to pay for capital improvements to the State’s infrastructure, was also denied by local voters by a slim margin. However, the issue appeared to be headed to a clear victory according to reported statewide results.
The voter turnout was 24.66 percent of registered voters.
