The Marion Police Department says a man was arrested on Monday afternoon after repeatedly exposing himself to a convenience store clerk. Police say the man also had several arrest warrants, including one out of Cleveland.
On June 19, 2014 and June 22, 2014, officers of the Marion Police Department responded to the Circle K convenience store, 588 North Main Street, for the report of a male subject exposing his genitalia to the female clerk. On both instances, the subject had left prior to officers’ arrival.
Police report that during their investigation they identified Vontai M. Mason as the suspect.
On Monday, June 23, 2014 at about 2:45pm, Officers were sent back to Circle K as Mason had reportedly returned to the store. Major Jeff Clewell was the first officer to arrival and said he attempted to confront Mason as he walked from the store. Clewell said that Mason took off running and a foot pursuit ensued.
Several officers converged on the area and, with the assistance of the Marion County Adult Probation Department and multiple concerned citizens, officials said that Mason was caught by officers and placed under arrest.
“Many thanks to the citizens of Marion for their assistance in this situation,” stated Lt. Eric Marsh. “As in this instance, any citizen is encouraged to report criminal activity that they witness by calling the Police Department at (740)387-2525 or the TIPS Line at (740)375-8477.”
Mason, 24, was charged with two counts of Public Indecency and Obstructing Official Business. He was also arrested for a warrant for conveyance by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, a Parole Violation Warrant, and a Warrant for Escape Prior to Confinement out of Cuyahoga County.
