The River Valley FFA attended the State FFA Convention on May 1-2 in Columbus and returned with awards and degrees. One of their members was also elected to a district leadership post.
State Convention is where chapters from all over Ohio come together to celebrate a successful year, get chapter awards, state degrees, personal awards, and find out who the state officers will be for the upcoming year.
The RV chapter was awarded with the Gold Rated Chapter award, placing them in the top 30 out of over 300 chapters in the state. The chapter also received a bronze service award.
The chapter’s secretary and treasurer earned gold ratings for their record books. As the chapter secretary. Sarah Longo had to prepare agendas for the chapter meetings, keep accurate member records, and keep track of the motions that passed or failed. As chapter treasurers, Emma Nicholson and Brock Faulkner kept neat and accurate records of the money the chapter has spent, provide annual financial reports, and assisted in developing the chapter.
This year the RV chapter had five recipients of the State FFA Degree, including Austin Guthrie, Collin Rollison, Mitchel Phillians, Jacob Bosley, and Kayla Wooten. These students worked hard inside and outside of school to obtain this degree. Some requirements they had to achieve were; complete 25 hours of community service in a minimum of two different activities, participate in at least five activities above chapter level, and earn or in invest 1,000 dollars or work at least 300 hours outside of class on a SAE.
The RV chapter’s 2013-2014 President Mitchell Swonger was elected as the 2014-2015 District 6 President. The chapter said that Swonger has gone above and beyond his duties this year serving as chapter president and has displayed great leadership to his fellow FFA members. In the coming year, he will travel across the state serving its over 30,000 members.
