Patrol Confirms Identity of Driver in Fatal Crash

Troopers from the Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol have continued to investigate a fatal crash that occurred on August 2, 2014 at approximately 7:05 pm on Martel Road, north of Marseilles-Galion Road, in Marion County.

The crash involved a 2004 Chevy Impala driven by Paul E. Kitts 59, of Caledonia.

The Patrol said Kitts was southbound on Martel Road when he drove off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, and then drove off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle struck a ditch, overturned, and came to rest on its top. The vehicle then became engulfed in flames.

Kitts was pronounced deceased at the scene by Marion County Coroner Marc Comianos.  His identity was confirmed by the Franklin County Coroner’s Office using DNA.

Seatbelt usage is unknown.

The Ohio State Patrol was assisted at the scene by Marion County Sheriff’s Department, First Consolidated Fire, Iberia Volunteer Fire, Morrow County EMS, and Medcare Ambulance Service.
