ACT Workshops Available to Help Area Students Boost Scores

I CANThe five-hour workshop offered on the Marion campus helps high school sophomores and juniors succeed as they prepare to take the ACT college preparatory exam. Higher ACT scores increase their chance of being accepted into the college of their choice and may increase how much financial aid they receive. Technical students entering professional programs like nursing are ranked in order of acceptance based on ACT scores and will also benefit from this program.

The workshop is taught by Michael Short, a master tutor who scores in the 99th percentile on these tests. Currently employed at the University of Louisville, Short worked for The Ohio State University at Marion from 2001 to 2011 and played a role in expanding I CAN Go to College into the regional access program I CAN Center of Excellence.

Workshops are held in Maynard Hall, Room 130 at 1461 Mount Vernon Ave., located on the campus shared by The Ohio State University and Marion Technical College.

They are scheduled from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and will be offered on Sept. 27, Nov. 22, Jan. 17, March 28, and May 16.

The cost for the workshop is $75 in advance or $85 at the door. Applications are available through high school guidance counselors or online at icancenter.org/act_prep.html.

Students who have yet to register may send the registration fee along with their name, address, phone number and email address to the I CAN Center of Excellence, 1465 Mount Vernon Ave., Marion, OH 43302. They may also call 740-725-6174 for more information.

The I CAN Center of Excellence is a regional college access network that serves Crawford, Delaware, Hardin, Marion, Morrow, Union and Wyandot counties.
