The Palace Cultural Arts Association and show sponsor Jim and Barb Greetham will present the junior production of “Disney’s Peter Pan, Jr.” for three performances on the Palace Theatre main stage.
More than 80 cast and crew members consisting of actors ages 7-17 years will perform a modern version of the timeless tale about a boy who wouldn’t grow up. The score includes new arrangements of classic Disney songs such as “You Can Fly” and “Yo Ho, A Pirate’s Life for Me.”
Show dates are Friday, October 10, 2014 and Saturday, October 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 12 at 2:00 p.m.
“Disney’s Peter Pan, Jr.” cast is led by a team of experienced production members including director Kristi Wink who started her performing arts career at a young age on the Palace Theatre stage. As a young adult, her talent led her to win the “Miss Ohio” title in 1991 and earned her appearances on daytime television “One Life to Live” and “Another World.” Kristi also spent a year on Broadway performing in “The Will Rogers Follies.” More recently, Kristi has remained local and been sharing her knowledge and love for the theatre by teaching acting classes at Act Two Studios, choreographing musicals for local schools and Palace Productions; and performing in numerous Palace musicals.
Last season, Wink directed a very successful production of “Little Mermaid, Jr.” at the Palace and is excited to return to the theatre this year directing an ambitious production of “Disney’s Peter Pan, Jr.” which includes flying Peter Pan, Wendy, Michael and John over the Palace stage.
“Using a fly-system is definitely the biggest challenge of this show,” says Wink. “The gear will arrive on Monday the week of the show giving the kids only 4 days to rehearse with actual flying.” A Trainer from ZFX Flying Effects as well as Wink, who has experience using the fly-system when she played the Wicked Witch of the West in the 2007 Palace Production of “The Wizard of Oz,” will train the cast members using the equipment.
Introducing a fly-system to this production was very important to Wink,
“I’ve seen other productions of “Peter Pan” that fell flat because they didn’t fly the characters. Even though this is a junior production, we are pulling out all the stops to give the audience a high quality show. When they see the characters soar above the stage it will bring that level of professionalism that Palace patrons expect.”
Additional Artistic Team members are: Producer–Clare Cooke; Vocal Director–Ann Schertzer; Set Design & Construction–Todd Meadows and Andrea Johnston; Costume Director–Susan Wenig; Rehearsal Pianist-Diane Ehrman; Stage Manager-Barb Yaksic; Asst. Stage Manager-Rhonda Arnold; Assistant to Director–April Short.
