Marion CAN DO Seeking New Director

The Marion CAN DO Board of Directors has formed a Search Committee to seek a new Director of the organization following the resignation of Craig Thompson. CAN DO is the economic development organization for the Marion community and was created in 1992 as a public/private partnership between Marion County, the City of Marion and local businesses.

The director of CAN DO is the primary person on the economic development team responsible for marketing Marion County. This includes lead generation, lead management and coordinating private sector and public-sector responses to prospects. The position involves high-level interaction with local, state, educational, and private sector leaders.

Dan Burkhart, Interim Director, said the ideal candidate will possess three to five years of experience as an economic development practitioner (preferred), or experience in marketing or business consulting, either at the local, regional or state level. This would include experience in marketing, lead generation and lead management.

The ideal candidate must possess outstanding written and oral communications skills.  The candidate should also be able to carry out computer word processing, spreadsheet and database applications, with additional skills desirable.

It is preferred that the successful candidate live in Marion County, but it is not required. However, the successful candidate would be expected to be involved in a variety of community activities in Marion County.

Burkhart said this position is an outstanding opportunity for someone who enjoys both hands-on work in a small community and high-level executive decisions, who is a “self-starter” and desires a large degree of day-to-day autonomy in setting his or her work schedule.

Resumes will be accepted until 4:00 PM on September 23, 2014 at the CAN DO office, 222 W. Center Street, Marion, Ohio. For questions and a complete job description, contact Dan Burkhart, Interim Director, at 740-387-2267.
