Marion County Unemployment Dips as More People Return to the Workforce

The unemployment rate for Marion County dipped in August 2014 to 5.4 percent, down from 6.1 percent in July. While decreases in the past have generally been dependent on a decreased workforce, this drop is significant because it comes with a larger workforce. Officials are hopeful that this could be a sign of an improving local job environment.

The August rate matches the rate from back in April 2014, but with an additional 200 individuals in the available workforce.

The latest figures also place the Marion County unemployment rate below the state’s rate of 5.7 percent.
