Cliff Brannon, General Manager of POET Biorefining – Marion, recently traveled to Washington, D.C. with other POET officials to meet with Congressional officials and highlighted the important role ethanol plays in reducing U.S. dependence on foreign oil and revitalizing the American economy.
Brannon joined Growth Energy leaders, including CEO Tom Buis and Co-Chairman of the Board General Wesley Clark (Ret.), for a series of meetings on Capitol Hill. Discussion focused on the current state of the industry and stressed the importance of protecting the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS).
“The intent of the Renewable Fuel Standard is to give consumers more choice at the gas pump and to put renewable fuels on a level-playing field with the oil industry. Any movement away from this intent is not what consumers are looking for and it will chill investment in cellulosic ethanol and advanced biofuels development,” said Brannon. “I appreciated the opportunity to meet with each office to discuss what the biofuels industry means to the people and communities in Ohio and look forward to building upon this relationship going forward.”
During the trip, Borer met with the offices of Speaker of the House John Boehner, Rep. Bill Johnson (OH-6), Rep. Marcy Kaptur (OH-9), Rep. Brad Wenstrup (OH-2), Rep. Pat Tiberi (OH-12), Rep. Joyce Beatty (OH-3), Rep. James Renacci (OH-16), Rep. Steve Stivers (OH-15), Rep. David Joyce (OH-14), Rep. Bob Latta (OH-5), Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Senator Rob Portman (R-OH).
POET, one of the world’s largest ethanol producers, is a 25-year-old company with a production capacity in excess of 1.6 billion gallons of ethanol and 9 billion pounds of high-protein animal feed annually from its network of 27 production facilities, including a Marion plant.
