The Ohio State Highway Patrol will be out in full force this holiday season removing dangerous and impaired drivers in an effort to reduce fatal and injury crashes. In Ohio in 2013, 24 people died in 23 crashes between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day. Of those crashes, four were OVI-related, resulting in five deaths.
“The holiday season sees an increase in impaired driving, which makes it a more dangerous time of the year,” said Colonel Paul A. Pride, Patrol superintendent. “Don’t endanger other motorists this holiday season by making poor choices about drinking and driving. Designate a sober driver, buckle up and keep your focus on the road.”
Last year the Patrol arrested 648 drivers for OVI between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day.
The public is encouraged to continue using #677 to report dangerous or impaired drivers, as well as drug activity.
