Marion Community Foundation offering second round of grant funding

The Marion Community Foundation announces a second round of grant funding in 2015. The Foundation has approximately $40,000 to award.

Local charitable programs and organizations are encouraged to submit applications for programs which will assist Marion area residents. Grant awards, according to Marion Community Foundation president and CEO Dean Jacob, may range from $1,000- $40,000, based on competition and need.

“We are pleased to offer this first-time mid-year grants program at Marion Community Foundation,” said Jacob. “Our goal is to consider two rounds of grants every year in order to help our local non-profit agencies meet their budget demands.  We also want to encourage our non-profit partners to create new programs that were not ready during our normal grant application season in July.  With this in mind, our Grants Committee set aside some money to pilot this second round of grants.”

Similar to the competitive grants program which is offered each summer, this pilot program has an online application, available now through February 5.  According to Program Manager Julie Prettyman, this mid-year grant program has a simple application with a save and return feature which allows applicants to complete the application in steps.   The application requires contact information, a project narrative — including goals, activities, timetable and personnel — and a description of how the project is a community benefit, as well as an accounting of income and expenses.

Only online applications will be accepted. The application may be found by visiting the Foundation’s website at www.MarionCommunityFoundation.org and clicking on the “Grants” tab on the left side of the home page.

“Marion Community Foundation’s purpose for this pilot grant season is to offer local non-profit organizations the chance to apply for funds to support their summer programs or initiatives happening the last half of 2015,” said Prettyman.  If awarded, grant funds will be available and need to be utilized between April-December 2015.

Completed applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. on February 5. Award decisions will be finalized in March.

Marion Community Foundation has been in existence since 1998 and, in that time, has awarded several million dollars in grants in support of charitable causes and organizations in the Marion area.  Marion Community Foundation grants support local education, healthcare, economic development, the arts, social services, and quality of life projects.

Additional information on the mid-year grant program is available by contacting Marion Community Foundation at 740-387-9704 during standard business hours. Marion Community Foundation is located at 504 S. State St. in Marion.
