This Valentine’s Day, the smooth sounds of the Carpenters will fill the Marion Palace Theatre auditorium. The Carpenters were notably the biggest selling group of the 70s with more than a dozen number one hits. Now singer Lisa Rock and her 6-piece band are bringing the music of The Carpenters back to the stage with their renditions of Carpenters classics with Close to You: The Music of the Carpenters.
Rock boasts an amazing four octave range which allows her to sing the hits like “We’ve Only Just Begun” and “Rainy Days and Mondays” in their original key, keeping the songs authentic and recognizable for the listener.
“When she hits the lower range of her marvelous voice,” notes Chicago critic Alan Bresloff, “if you close your eyes, you can see Karen Carpenter’s face.”
In addition to the music, audience members will be delighted to hear anecdotes about Karen and Richard Carpenter, their lives and how some of the songs originated.
Close to You: The Music of The Carpenters will take the Marion Palace Theatre stage this Valentine’s Day on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. Reserved seating tickets are $20, $24, $28. Sponsored by ProScape Lawn & Landscape Services and funded by Ohio Arts Council. Media sponsor WMRN-AM.
