Three tax issues expected for May Election, no contested races in primary

The Marion County Board of Elections has released the list of issues and candidates who filed petitions prior to the Wednesday afternoon deadline for the May 5, 2015 Primary / Special Election. Since there are no opposing candidate races within the same party, the May 2015 Primary will be considered a Primary / Special election and only 31 of the 84 precincts in Marion County will be involved.

The three issues on the ballot may include:

  • Marion Township Fire District – 7.7 Mil / 5 Year / Renewal – Commencing in 2015
  • Prospect Village – 4.3 Mil / 5 Year / Renewal  – Commencing in 2015
  • River Valley Local School District – 1.5 Mil / 5  Year / Additional – Commencing in 2015

If the petitions are certified by the board of elections, the following races will be contested in the November General Election.

  • City Council 3rd Ward
    • Michael E. Thomas (D)
    • Tanner Hale (R)
  • City Council    5th Ward
    • John Smith (D)
    • Leslie Cunningham (R)
  • Marion City Auditor
    • Kelly Carr (D)
    • Donald Smith (R)
  • Marion City Law Director
    • Ray Grogan (R)
    • Mark Russell (D)
  • Marion City Council at Large (three elected)
    • Rebbeca Gustin (D)
    • Josh M. Daniels (D)
    • Edgar Layne (R)
    • Scott K. Crider (D)
    • Kevin Norris (R)
  • Marion City Council President
    • David Edwards (D)
    • Scot Gray (R)
  • Mayor of Marion City
    • Scott Schertzer (D)
    • Jean Hoffmann (R)

Unless an independent or write-in candidate files, the races for City Council’ 2nd, 4th, and 6th Wards will be uncontested and the incumbents will retain their seats.

 

The issues and candidate petitions are still in the process of being validated by the board of elections. Petition validation will be completed and a special board meeting will be held on February 11, 2015 at 4:00pm to certify the issues and candidates.
