Marion YMCA offering lifeguard classes

The Marion Family YMCA is set to offer lifeguard classes in March and April. While learning essential lifeguarding and safety skills, participants will also learn the importance of responsibility, hard work, perseverance, and service to the community.

The YMCA promises that their trained, certified, professional staff will give each class participant personal attention to ensure a positive experience for everyone.

The class in March is limited to the first 20 participants and the class in April is limited to the first ten participants. Participants must be 16 years old by the first day of class.

Participants must be able to do the following:

  • Swim 300 yards continuously using these strokes in the following order:  100 yards front crawl, 100 yard breaststroke, and 100 yards of side stroke.
  • Swim 20 yards by front crawl or breaststroke, dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet and recover a 10 pound object, then return the object to the surface and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object in 1:40 or faster.

Classes are $175 for YMCA members or $225 for those who are not Y members.

March classes:

  • Monday, March 16th 4pm-9pm
  • Wednesday, March 18th 4pm-9pm
  • Tuesday-Wednesday, March 23rd –March 25th 3PM-8PM
  • Monday, March 30th 4PM-9PM

April classes:

  • Monday-Wednesday, April 6th-8th 4PM-8PM
  • Saturday, April 11th 11am-3pm
  • Monday-Wednesday, April 13th-15th 4PM-8PM
  • Saturday, April 18th 11am-3PM
  • Monday, April 20th 4PM-8PM
