Permits and training would no longer be required to carry a concealed gun in Ohio, under legislation introduced this week in the Ohio House.
Under House Bill 147, anyone aged 21 or older in Ohio would be able to carry any concealed firearm not specifically banned by law. It would also prohibit law enforcement officers from searching or detaining people just because they are carrying a legal firearm, and landlords couldn’t stop tenants from carrying or possessing a gun.
Currently, Ohioans wishing to carry a concealed handgun must obtain a permit from their local county sheriff and complete eight hours of safety training.
HB 147, introduced by Republican Rep. Ron Hood of Pickaway County, has 19 GOP co-sponsors, including Speaker Pro Tempore Ron Amstutz of Wooster.
Though Republicans dominate the state legislature, it’s unclear what the bill’s chances are.
