Tallgrass Trail to hold Nature Fair this Saturday

Tallgrass TrailThe Marion County Park District will host their first annual Nature Fair on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Tallgrass Trail Nature Center from 9 to 11 am.

Children of all ages will visit ten stations, where they will make tree cookies, bagel bird feeders, and sun prints. They can enjoy a scavenger hunt and water games, while guessing mysterious mammals and matching habitat to animals. There will be prizes and refreshments.

James Anderson, Marion County Park District naturalist, said, “If we are going to protect our natural resources for future generations, we need to get our children involved.”

At 11:10 am, Anderson and park district intern Andrew Grimes will lead a nature hike at the trail, and will discuss the hiking/biking club that the park district will start on June 20.

The nature center at the Marion Tallgrass Trail is located at 2093 Holland Road West. Visitors driving west on State Route 309 from Marion should turn left on Holland Road. The Tallgrass Trail parking lot is 1.7 miles ahead on the left, just before Holland Road curves north.

The Tallgrass Trail is currently paved for 3.7 miles, with construction of at least three more miles slated to begin this month. The trail can be used for walking, jogging, bicycling, and other non-motorized activities.
