Marion Public Health offers immunization clinic for students entering 7th grade

Marion Public HealthUnder guidelines established by the Ohio Department of Health, students entering the 7th grade are required to have a booster dose of the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) vaccine prior to the start of the new school year.

Marion Public Health will be holding a Tdap clinic at Grant Middle School on Thursday, August 13, 2015 from 5-7pm in the gymnasium. All 7th grade students in Marion County are invited to take advantage of this event. The cost for the Tdap is based on a sliding fee scale not to exceed $20.00. Marion Public Health accepts most health insurance plans and cash or check with proper ID. Please bring immunization records and proof of insurance.

Along with the mandatory Tdap vaccination, the following is a list of the recommended adolescent vaccines available on a walk-in basis Monday – Friday from 8:00 – 4:30 at the health department located at 181 S. Main Street:

  • Menactra (MCV4-one dose to protect against meningitis) -Teens are at increased risk for this bacterial infection.  Meningitis can kill a healthy person in less than 48 hours. Survivors can have serious problems that last the rest of their lives.
  • HPV (Human Papillomavirus-three dose series to protect against HPV disease)-HPV disease is the leading cause of cervical cancer in women and genital warts in men and women.
  • Chicken Pox (Varicella-two doses to protect against chicken pox if not already immune from disease)-This disease causes fever and rash.  In some cases, especially in teens, serious health problems may occur.
  • Hepatitis A (HAV) is a serious liver disease caused by the hepatitis A virus
