Donald Smith has been selected as August 2015 Republican of the Month by the Marion County Republican Central and Executive Committee at its recent meeting.
A Marion resident, he began to practice law in 1974 in Pennsylvania and in 1997 in Ohio. He retired from the active practice of law in 2013 after nearly 10 years with the Legal Aid Society of Columbus. For over 20 years Smith as a trust officer, represented clients in managing and settling estates and preparing the accounts for the court.
His community affiliations include serving as president of the Marion County Board of Development Disabilities; director of the Heart of Ohio Homeless Shelter, and holding memberships in the Meeker Sportsman Club, the Marion County Republican Club and a life member of the National Rifle Association. He is treasurer of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Council.
He holds a B.A. degree from Gettysburg College a JD degree from Dickinson School of Law and a LL.M (taxation) degree from Temple University. He is a candidate on the GOP November slate for Marion City Auditor.
Smith and his wife, Jackie, have a daughter, son-in-law and 4 grandchildren living in Defiance.
