United Way kicks of 2015 fundraising campaign for Marion initiatives

2015 United Way KickoffUnited Way of Marion County kicked off its annual fundraising campaign Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. at the Marion Area Chamber’s Business After Hours Event, which was held at The Ohio State University Marion in the Guthery Room (1461 Mount Vernon Avenue).

“Each year we plan a kick-off event with a community partner,” explained Executive Director Pam Stone.  “In the past several years, we’ve showcased one of the programs or initiatives we’re working on to give folks a taste of the work we do. We hope that people will leave the kick-off excited and ready to support the local community through the United Way campaign.”

Last year the annual giving campaign raised almost $1 million that was reinvested in Marion County, and the goal this year will remain steady at $1 million.

The United Way of Marion County’s 2015 campaign theme is “When You Give, the Community Keeps the Change.” Amber Wertman, Assistant Director, added, “Change starts here in Marion County and United Way is happy to lead the way”

United Way got a head start on the campaign by working with local financial institutions on a “Change Challenge.” Donations of loose change were collected from September 1st to September 18th at Commercial Savings Bank, Marion Community Credit Union, The Union Bank Co., United Bank division of The Park National Bank and United Federal Credit Union.  The winner of the “Change Challenge” was Commercial Savings Bank (pictured).

Attendees were encouraged to check out United Way of Marion County’s new website, including the 2015 Campaign video.
