Marion Police K-9 killed in accident

The Marion Police Department said Monday that one of it’s K9’s has died after being struck by a car.

“It is with a heavy heart that we report, our newest member of the Marion Police K9 Unit has died from injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle,” said Chief Bill Collins in a media release.

According to Collins, K9 Bella and her handler Officer Dana Jagger were camping in a remote area of Ross County when Bella, for an unknown reason, ran from the campsite. After only a short time of searching Bella was struck by a vehicle while trying to cross State Route 28.

“Bella was made possible through the gracious generosity of the Marion Community and will be missed by all,” said Collins. “Bella was the first female K9, assigned to the first female K9 Officer, of the Marion Police Department and in her short time in service had a great impact on officers and the community she served.”
