Marion Sears location to close in July

Troubled Sears Holdings announced Thursday that the company will close 68 Kmart and 10 Sears stores this summer, including the Marion location.

Affected in Ohio are Kmart stores in Eaton, Fremont, Lima and Springboro, and the Sears store in Marion, all five of which will close in late July.

The Super K stores in Lorain and Ashtabula will close in mid-September, the company said.

Sears Holdings said in February that it would accelerate the closing of unprofitable stores, after evaluating past store performance and the timing of lease expirations.

CEO Edward S. Lampert said in a statement, “The decision to close stores is a difficult but necessary step as we take aggressive actions to strengthen our company, fund our transformation and restore Sears Holdings to profitability.”
