Marion YMCA hopes to improve Healthy Habits with Super Kids

The Marion Family YMCA wants families to understand how a child’s weight affects their health and how to adopt healthy habits.

The Marion Family YMCA Super Kids Program is for children 7-15 who are struggling with their weight and wish to form healthier habits.  By participating in Super Kids, the YMCA hopes children will:

  • Achieve a healthier weight
  • Increase physical activity and exercise
  • Improve eating habits
  • Have a family that understands and supports healthy lifestyle habits

The program meets twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00-7:30PM. One day a week (Tuesday) the entire family participates by joining in the physical activities and twice a month a Registered Diet Technician shares important information about healthy eating, cooking demonstrations, portion control, and lessons on reading food labels.

Thursday evenings, the children meet with a Wellness Coach for fun, physical exercise including learning activities they can enjoy on their own between sessions and after the program ends.

The program is $50 and includes a Y membership for the entire family (three month membership begins with registration as long as the child and parents maintain attendance in the program sessions). There is an additional 3 month family membership given upon completion of the program to begin immediately at graduation.

Financial assistance is available. Households with an income of less than $30,000 per year will receive 50% off of the program fee. Applicants must provide proof of income.
