The Marion County Sheriff’s Office reports they have made an arrest in the robbery that occurred at
Al’s Country Market, 3249 Harding Highway West in Big Island on Friday afternoon.
On July 22, 35-year-old Matthew Thomas, of 545 Cherry Street in Marion, was arrested on charges of aggravated robbery and remains incarcerated at the Multi-County Correctional Center. The vehicle allegedly used in the robbery was also located.
Sheriff Tim Bailey said that detectives are still gathering information on the second suspect who remains at large and ask that the public continue to call with any information they may have to
assist in the investigation.
Sheriff Tim Bailey urges anyone with information reference to the second suspect to contact the Marion County Sheriff’s Office at 740-382-8244, or the TIPS line at 740-375-TIPS (8477).
“If you see this suspect still at large do not approach him as he is considered armed and dangerous,” stated Sheriff Bailey. “Keep a safe distance and contact law enforcement.”
At approximately 1:56pm on Friday, dispatchers received a 911 call from an employee at Al’s Country Market who advised that she was just robbed by two unidentified black males at knife point. The employee reported that the two male subjects had t-shirts over their faces to disguise their appearance.
An undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the business. A customer said they saw a maroon Chrysler PT Cruiser drive away from the business as they pulled in, which investigators said appears to be the suspect vehicle. Another passerby said they saw a similar maroon PT Cruiser with light yellow flames on the front fenders occupied by two black males in the area just before the business was robbed.
One suspect is described as being shorter with a thin build and wearing a blue “jump suit” with white tennis shoes. The second suspect is a thin build as well but taller with dark clothing on. The vehicle was last seen heading north on Prospect-Upper Sandusky Road North.
