The Marion Police Department said that one man was arrested following a struggle over a gun Monday evening. The gun went off during the struggle.
On July 4, 2016 at approximately 10:12 pm, officers of the Marion Police Department were flagged down about a possible shooting in the area of Park Street and Wallace Street in Marion. At about the same time, the Marion Combined Dispatch Center received calls about a fight with weapons in the same area.
Investigators said they learned that this was the second altercation involving these same subjects that same day. The one subject had left the area only to return carrying a small handgun. A struggle ensued over the gun at which point the gun was discharged.
Police said that no one was injured during the struggle and no one was struck by the bullet when the gun was fired.
Jermail Thompson of Marion was arrested out of this incident. Formal charges of Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Weapons Under Disability are being forwarded to the Marion County Prosecutor for consideration.
