Sheriff’s Office hosting retirement party for K9 Sig

K9 SigMarion County Sheriff Tim Bailey is inviting the community to celebrate the retirement of K9 Sig, a 10 year old German Shepherd. Sig started his years of service with this office on November 9, 2007 at the age of two.

Sig was assigned to his partner Deputy DJ Barron where they patrolled the roads of Marion County for the last 9 years.

Sig received his training through the Richland County Sheriff’s Office from trainer Jimmy Sweat. Sig was certified in apprehension, narcotics, articles, tracking, building and area searches, and obedience. Sig was certified through the United States Police Canine Association and competed in several competitions over the years earning several trophies and medals.

The public is invited to join them on September 1, 2016 at the Marion County Building, 222 West Center Street, immediately following the 9:00am regular scheduled meeting at the Commissioners Chambers to wish Sig a happy and enjoyable retirement. K9 Sig will spend his retirement at home with Deputy Barron who has always been his handler.

As Sig prepared for his retirement, the Sheriff’s Office was given K9 Taz from the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office. Taz is a five year old Belgian Malinois who received training thorough the Marion County Sheriff’s Office’s own K9 staff.

Taz is assigned to Deputy DJ Barron and they began patrolling the roads of Marion County on August 17, 2016. Taz is certified in narcotics, apprehension, articles, tracking, obedience, building and area searches.

“We would like to welcome K9 Taz in joining myself and my staff at the sheriff’s office who are proud to serve our community,” said Sheriff Bailey.
